Chris Findlay

In 1986, Chris Findlay founded Compusense Inc. and continues to serve as its Chairman. The company has become a world leader in sensory and consumer science, with a focus on software development and a dynamic contract and independent research program.

Dr. Findlay has been an active member of the Institute of Food Technology since 1978 and in 2016 was elected to the Board of Directors. He is a past Chair of the Sensory Evaluation Division and in 2011, he was honoured with the Institute of Food Technology Inaugural Award for Achievement in Sensory and Consumer Science. In 2012, he received the Sensory and Consumer Sciences Award for Outstanding Service. He is also involved in the American Society for Testing Materials E-18 Committee, Society of Sensory Professionals and Sensometrics organizations. In 2017, he received the David R. Peryam Award of ASTM International Committee E18 for outstanding contributions to the fields of basic and applied sensory science. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists and the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology. He has taught Sensory Evaluation as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Food Science of the University of Guelph and has lectured and consulted internationally on a wide range of sensory subjects. Dr. Findlay has also held adjunct faculty appointments to the Departments of Food Science and Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph. In 2011, he was one of the local Chairs of the 9th Pangborn Symposium in Toronto, Canada. In 2008, he chaired the 9th Sensometrics conference at Brock University in Canada.

He holds a B.Sc. Chemistry, from Concordia, Montreal and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of Guelph. He holds 7 patents, has published over 50 refereed scientific papers and has contributed to four books on sensory science.

Dr. Findlay is passionate about applying reliable sensory science and consumer research to help food developers make evidence-based decisions. His goal is to deliver exceptional products that will delight consumers and nourish the world.
